Indonesian cocoa plantations experienced rapid development since the early 1980s and in 2002, cocoa plantations in Indonesia was an area of 914,051 ha in which the majority (87.4%) managed by the people and the remaining 6.0% of the country estates and 6.7 % large private estates.
